Pause Life for a Moment

Today is my blogiversary! Wow, I can’t believe I published my first post one year ago today. This seems like a great time to pause and reflect, which is exactly what I’m doing over at JDaniels4’s Mom today.

JDaniel4's Mom is the mastermind behind that lovely blog, and she asked me to participate in her “Pause Life for a Moment” series. This collection of writing is all about slowing down, taking a deep breath and living the moment you’re in – something I have always struggled to do.

Here is a brief excerpt from my contribution, entitled “Filling Holes.”

I spent the first months of Quinn’s life in a sleep deprived, post-partum depressed, “I-don’t-know-if-I-can-do-this” anxiety-filled haze. The fog has finally lifted, but the guilt for having been engulfed in it at all eats away at me. I look at my seven month old son, who is now more than twice the size of the wee baby in the photograph, and I want all that time back. Now his legs hang down far past my waist, and he has a hard time finding a cushy spot for his head on my shoulder. He rarely falls asleep on me anymore, and when he does, he twists and squirms, struggling to find a comfortable position. He’s no longer a little baby. He looks and acts more and more like a little boy every day.

Thank you for having me, JD4M!

Also, check out Alison's "Tips, Tricks and Advice" series on her blog, "Mama Wants This." She's featuring my question next week about the best developmental toys for infants and toddlers. Good to know with the holidays looming! So check out her post and email her or comment on her blog with your advice for me. Then tune in again next week to see your response featured in her post. Thanks in advance!
