Quinn’s Weekend Adventures: Happy New Year!

Happy New Year, everyone! I hope your 2012 is off to a fantastic, hangover-free start. Quinn celebrated his first New Year at home with Mommy and Daddy.

We had a couple of tempting New Year’s Eve invitations, but Hubs and I decided to spend the evening at home with our little one. We had a lovely dinner, just the three of us. Hubs cooked ribs. I cut up a fresh salad for us. We even had fancy bread.

Quinn watched a little of The Cat in the Hat before bed. He’s mesmerized when the “thingamajigger is up and away.”

He also had a little playtime fun with Daddy to get all his giggles out before bedtime.

After Q-man went to sleep, Hubs and I opened a nice bottle of champagne we had been saving for a special occasion. He opened it in the garage so the loud, celebratory POP wouldn’t wake up Q.

Then we drank champagne, ate some Dibs ice cream bites for dessert, and played cards. We realized that we hadn’t played cards since we were passing the time at the hospital almost ten months ago waiting for Quinn to make his debut. We felt like us again for a couple of hours that night, and it was lovely.

We managed to stay awake until the ball dropped, but just barely. Shortly after midnight, this new mommy and daddy duo wearily staggered to bed.

On New Year’s Day, our little Q-man didn’t get the memo that Mommy and Daddy were up way past their usual bedtime, and he woke up bright and early at 6:30. So with toothpicks propping our eyelids open, this new mommy and daddy duo wearily staggered out of bed long before we wanted to.

Quinn is starting to understand the concept of mirrors and reflection. When he sees something moving in the mirror, he instantly whips his head around to see what’s going on behind him. Q knows now that that’s him in the mirror, and he loves touching and laughing at his reflection. Yesterday, he crawled over to the mirror for the first to check out himself out. Too cute.

The three of us are spending the first week of 2012 in Monterey. We rented a quaint little cottage just a block up from Cannery Row. We have plans to go to the aquarium, take a stroll through Point Lobos and spend quality time together as a family. I’m looking forward to a peaceful and relaxing week, which you will undoubtedly see photos of in next week’s QWA.

How did you spend your first New Year’s Eve as parents? Do you remember?
