Jolly Ol’ St. Nick {Not-so-wordy Wednesday}

Quinn (20 mos.) and Jolly Ol' St. Nick - 2012
(Pssst! The beard is REAL!!!)
Quinn and I have been reading Twas the Night Before Christmas in preparation for Santa’s visit. Last year, my mom sent him the story as one of those books that you can record yourself reading. Quinn loves it! When he flips the pages all by himself, he hears his grandma’s voice from miles away and enjoys one of his new favorite stories at the same time.

I doubt Q fully understands the concept of Santa Claus, but I think he has some idea. Yesterday, Santa and Mrs. Claus pulled up next to us in a minivan. It was the cutest thing – an elderly couple dressed as the famous North Pole residents. Santa looked over, and I smiled and waved. I called back to Quinn, and he looked up from his truck book and hollered “SANTA!”

I’m not sure Santa could see Quinn through the lightly tinted glass and sunshades on my back window, but he could tell from my excited gestures that there must be a child sitting back there. Santa waved in the general direction of our backseat, and Q waved back. It totally made Q’s day. (Until we pulled up next to a bright red fire truck a little later. That slightly trumped the Santa sighting.)

I took Quinn to see Santa at the mall a few weeks ago. I didn’t know how well that would go over, but he was all smiles sitting on the lap of jolly ol’ St. Nick.

Last time Q sat on Santa’s lap, he looked like a baby. Now, he’s officially a little boy. He even told Santa he wanted a train.

I love how the magic of Santa is just beginning for Quinn. I know his belief and wonder will be fleeting, and years will go by faster than I’d like. So I’m embracing each moment until then. Next year is going to be really fun.

Q loved sitting on Santa's lap last year, too. His little girlfriend? Not so much.
